Overview

As an Ecosystem Restoration Professional with Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Nashville-area office in Franklin, TN, you’ll lead the ecosystem restoration design team and oversee the planning, design, and implementation of stream, wetland, floodplain, and other ecosystem restoration projects throughout Tennessee and the surrounding region.

 

Your work will encompass stream channel, wetland, and floodplain restoration, along with other nature-based solutions designed to improve water quality, habitat, and ecological function. You’ll apply your experience in ecosystem restoration—which may include stream morphology, fluvial geomorphology, ecology, hydrology, hydraulics, or natural channel design—to guide projects from initial field assessment and conceptual design through final design and construction.

You’ll lead and work alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists while collaborating with experienced restoration professionals across CEC. In this player-coach role, you’ll contribute directly to project work while managing projects, mentoring and developing staff, strengthening client relationships, and helping grow CEC's ecosystem restoration practice in Middle Tennessee.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and work alongside the Nashville ecosystem restoration design team in planning and designing stream channel, wetland, and floodplain restoration projects
  • Guide the application of ecosystem restoration principles including natural channel design, stream morphology, ecology, hydrology, and hydraulics across restoration projects
  • Prepare, lead and review grading plans, construction drawings, quantity calculations, technical specifications, cost estimates, and other design documents
  • Perform and guide hydrologic, hydraulic, ecological, geomorphic, and other technical evaluations in support of restoration design
  • Conduct and oversee stream, wetland, floodplain, and other ecological field assessments and data collection to support project design
  • Provide and lead construction-phase support and while coordinating field oversight with the ecosystem restoration team
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies throughout project delivery
  • Manage projects, mentor and develop design staff, and work with the team to coordinate workload and deliver projects
  • Contribute to the continued growth of CEC's ecosystem restoration practice

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, ecology, geomorphology, environmental science, or a related discipline
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams, managing projects, mentoring staff, and coordinating project delivery
  • Working knowledge of ecosystem restoration principles, including relevant experience in one or more areas such as stream morphology, fluvial geomorphology, ecology, hydrology, or hydraulics
  • Experience designing ecosystem restoration projects in one or more practice areas, such as streams, wetlands, floodplains, or other nature-based solutions
  • Experience preparing design plans, technical analyses, specifications, cost estimates, or technical reports
  • Experience conducting field work associated with ecosystem restoration projects, including stream, wetland, or floodplain restoration
  • Experience coordinating ecosystem restoration projects across multiple phases, including assessment, conceptual design, final design, and construction
  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and team leadership skills

Preferred Capabilities

  • Relevant professional licensure or certification, such as Professional Engineer (P.E.), Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), or comparable credentials
  • Relevant training or certification in ecosystem restoration, such as Rosgen methodology, wetland science, fluvial geomorphology, or comparable disciplines
  • Experience with the Tennessee Stream Quantification Tool (SQT)
  • Knowledge of Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act and associated permitting
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or similar hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software
  • Experience with ArcGIS or similar GIS applications
