Overview

As a Civil Engineering Intern/Co-Op with Civil & Environmental Consultants (CEC) in the Boston or Providence region, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to develop technical skills in site design, engineering analysis, plan preparation, and field support. Interns contribute to a variety of residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional projects by assisting with engineering calculations, preparing plans and exhibits, conducting site visits, and supporting project development efforts.

You will gain hands-on experience in the design of diverse land development projects, including urban mixed-use redevelopments, multifamily housing communities, suburban residential neighborhoods, and large-scale commercial and industrial facilities. Working alongside experienced engineers and designers, you will be exposed to every phase of a project's lifecycle, from initial concepts and design, through permitting, regulatory review, bidding, construction, and project completion.

This role also provides valuable opportunities to interact with clients, contractors, and public officials while developing an understanding of the collaborative nature of the engineering profession. In addition, you will work closely with professionals across multiple disciplines, including Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical and Solid Waste Engineering, gaining a comprehensive perspective on integrated project delivery.

Through the CEC Internship Program, you will:

  • Acquire practical experience applying knowledge from college courses, learn from industry experts, and collaborate with teams across functional groups and locations
  • Develop a robust professional network through social events and interactive activities
  • Collaborate closely with a mentor in your discipline to tackle real-world challenges
  • Participate in workshops to help foster interpersonal skills within the workplace and prepare students for success in their full-time careers
