As a NEPA Practitioner in our Ecological Practice at the Knoxville, TN office, you’ll support environmental planning efforts as part of CEC’s Environmental Planning team, serving primarily as a technical writer responsible for delivering high-quality NEPA documentation while also contributing to field-based ecological assessments. CEC’s Ecological Practice is a core component of our integrated services, representing approximately 10% of companywide revenue and offering broad technical expertise in wetland and stream assessments and delineations, Section 401/404 permitting, endangered species surveys, ESA compliance, ecosystem restoration, invasive plant control, and habitat assessments. In this role, you will produce accurate, compliant work products and, over time, develop internal and external client relationships to support growth within the group, with mentorship and training provided by CEC.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and support NEPA documentation as a technical writer, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and compliant deliverables;
Contribute to field-based ecological assessments, including wetland, stream, habitat, and species-related evaluations;
Support projects involving wetland and stream delineations, mitigation, and Section 401/404 permitting;
Assist with endangered species surveys, ESA strategy and compliance, ecosystem restoration, and invasive plant control efforts;
Perform quality assurance/quality control reviews to ensure work products meet CEC standards;
Develop internal and external client relationships over time to support growth of the Ecological and Environmental Planning practices.
