Overview

As a Survey Crew Chief for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Greenville, SC office, you’ll lead and participate in field survey operations supporting a variety of projects, including boundary surveys, ALTA/ACSM Land Title surveys, topographic surveys, route surveys, and construction stakeout. You’ll work both independently and with crew members under the direction of a Registered Professional Surveyor, ensuring accurate data collection and efficient field execution. You’ll operate survey equipment such as robotic total stations and GPS receivers, while maintaining detailed field notes, managing equipment, and upholding safety standards across all activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead field survey crews in the execution of boundary, ALTA/ACSM, topographic, route, and construction surveys
  • Operate and maintain survey equipment, including robotic total stations and GPS receivers
  • Collect accurate field data, including measurements, notes, and sketches, to support survey deliverables
  • Ensure efficient daily field operations, including task planning, crew coordination, and adherence to project requirements
  • Maintain and inspect survey equipment and vehicles to ensure proper working condition
  • Follow and promote health and safety standards and standard operating procedures in all field activities
  • Coordinate with project managers, surveyors, and office staff to support project completion

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years' survey crew chief experience; 
  • Skilled in the use of GPS devices, data collectors and/or Total Station;
  • Work requires independent judgment and initiative; 
  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of land surveying; 
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and instruments used in computer aided drafting; 
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices and construction specifications, plans, and regulations related to construction;
  • Knowledge of industry specific safe workplace principles and practices; 
  • Albility to operate motorized equipment; 
  • Ability to work outdoors under various field conditions; 
  • Valid Driver's License.
