Overview

Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) is seeking an Ecological Project Manager to join our established Ecological Practice in Indianapolis.  Companywide, the Ecological Practice provides approximately 10% of our annual revenues, making it an essential part of the integrated services that we offer to our clients. CEC’s Ecological Practice distinguishes itself from the service offerings of other firms because of the breadth of our technical expertise that includes wetland and stream assessments, delineations, and mitigation; Section 401/404 permitting; endangered species surveys, including bats and plants; Endangered Species Act strategy and compliance, ecosystem restoration; and habitat assessments. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, motivated, and enthusiastic biologist who enjoys managing people and projects and working outdoors with like-minded individuals on a variety of projects in a wide range of settings.

What a Day in the Life Looks Like

As an Ecological Project Manager at CEC, you are in charge of your career trajectory. Not only will you be managing projects and staff, but we are constantly trying to promote from within and balance the needs of our clients along with those of our employees. Our ecologists work cooperatively across all CEC offices to bring the necessary expertise to our clients' specific project needs. You will be part of a team that excels at solving problems and providing our clients with innovative solutions. Project managers at CEC are responsible for developing business through utilization of your existing network and internal CEC resources. You will collaborate with staff ecologists and lead interdisciplinary projects working alongside engineers, surveyors, and environmental scientists. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, motivated, and enthusiastic ecologist who enjoys managing like-minded individuals on a variety of projects in a wide range of settings.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: delineation and assessment of natural resources; natural resource impact permitting (e.g. Clean Water Act Section 404/401, state-specific permits, local permits, etc.); and, assessment/reporting for projects subject to National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements.  Recent experience in Indiana is desired.  Experience in states adjacent to Indiana (Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois and Michigan) or elsewhere is a plus;
  • Ability to provide senior technical expertise and mentoring to staff and managers in the ecological practice;
  • Experience working with state and federal regulators and demonstrated understanding of regulations from agencies such as EPA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service;
  • Successful client development and management experience applicable to expansion of services in the renewable energy, electric transmission, oil and gas, mining, and/or real estate markets.
