Overview

As a Geotechnical/Construction Field Technician for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you'll be part of a highly trained and experienced team that performs observations and testing during construction of commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. Construction activities that you'll monitor and test include earthwork, underground utilities, building foundations, masonry, pavements and structural concrete (i.e., walls, foundations, floor slabs, sidewalks, curbs, basements, etc.).

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Perform field testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt to ensure compliance with project specs.
  • Use specialized equipment like nuclear density gauges, penetrometers, and more (we’ll train you!).
  • Keep equipment clean, calibrated, and ready for action.
  • Interact with contractors, engineers, and inspectors as a professional representative of CEC.
  • Drive and maintain company vehicles to and from job sites.
  • Write daily field reports, interpret project drawings/specs, and enter test data.
  • Communicate with Project Managers to keep everything running smoothly.

Qualifications

  • 1-5 years of construction experience.
  • Hands-on experience inspecting and/or testing earthwork, concrete, asphalt, pavement, soil, and other similar materials preferred 
  • High school diploma required. 
  • An ability to work independently at construction sites, communicating with construction foreman/superintendents, with support from a CEC Project Engineer.
  • Valid Drivers License for site travel using company vehicles required.
  • Experience interpreting construction plans and specifications preferred
  • Capable of recording observations and test results in daily field reports required.
  • NICET, ICC, ACI, OSHA Construction Safety Training, and/or Nuclear Density Meter Safety Training Certifications preferred.
